From the diary of Silvan the Dryad Session date: 7.12.2003 We met with a group of people, led by Wolfgar. We told him trolls were attacking Dorandor, and he'd die if he and his fellows would go there. He wondered if we were not going there without weapons, and we said we might know of a place where weapons could be found. Wolfgar knew a bit about the city defenses. He said that if the city was under attack, nobody could get in. We mentioned to him that Quaylans house was full of demons, so we wouldn't count much on the defenses. Wolfgar told us he'd been chosen to lead Cenoby. Long ago, Tamaol had helped the elven queen, and the trees surrounding the city had magic. They'd been designed against orcs and probably could stop the trolls. He didn't know about the flying demons, but the castle in the city was prepared to defend against dragons. The air defense was mostly designed to defend against big targets, like dragons, so Wolfgar wasn't sure how well it might dare against flying demons. We suggested we go to the chapel and rescue the crown prince and Quaylan and a bunch of others. We went there and saw a firmly locked door. We went inside the cell using the tunnel we'd dug before and began freeing the people. Quaylan's chains posed for trouble, so we began to search the building for better tools. When we began beating against the cell door (not a cellar door, regardless of how beautiful that word sounds), we noticed that there were people on the other side trying to prevent us from getting through. Armed soldiers eventually came to our aid, and we explained the situation to them. They broke the door, and found that the demons on the other side had chosen to run. I observed Buran barking out orders (funny, I would've thought barking out things would be something I'd do, and not a dwarf). The soldiers moved out to secure the building, and the metallurgist, who was one of the prisoners we freed, began studying the chains Quaylan was in. They soldiers found many icky things, and we went back upstairs. Quaylan was eventually freed. One of his hands got free, after which he managed to free himself. We managed to get everybody free after that. There was some disagreement between the heroes over the next course of action. John Gwynneth thought the most important thing would be to go to the city and fight the demons, but Quaylan wanted to go fetch his staff. demons, while Quaylan wanted to fetch his staff. Quaylan then decided to give a try to summoning a temporary dragon for our aid. Quaylan almost exploded, but it wasn't that bad after all. He tried again, and this time managed to get a one-hour dragon, ready to go. We got on its back and into the air, towards the site where Quaylan's previous dragon had died. We flew over the orcish mine, and saw movement down there. Quaylan said they were spiders who'd come out of the mine, perhpas summoned by Dorgan earlier. Apparently their mission was to stop anybody who tried to flee. We turned a bit towards Dorandor to see what the situation was. There were flying demons flocking about the city, working in small teams. Some of the trees were doing something in the Castle Dorandor, and it looked like trolls had created a circle around the city. Then we turned towards the north. The orcish lands were all dark. We saw something moving about the road towards the Orcish Bridge, but couldn't say what it was. Only in Fortress Belligerence were there lights. We heard explosions coming from Fortress Gaol. We reached the skeleton of Quaylan's dragon. There were plenty of footprints in the ground. We found no signs of the Staff of Summoning. Daylo tried using his l33t Knowledge Magic skillz. According to him, the staff wasn't anywhere on this side of the river. We set flight towards Dorandor. Northeast of the city, we saw people who were trying to run away, but were being picked off by the flying demons. We landed, and the dragon was sent to fight the demons. When the dragon died, Quaylan said, he could summon something more, like manticores. A huge amount of flying demons was flocking around the Sentinel Tower. It looked like it'd been broken from the middle, and something was holding the upper part of it in the air. Somebody was shooting at the demons from below, and we could see flashes of light inside the tower. We could see that the trees had gotten entwined around the buildings in the city, but they didn't seem to be moving. The trees looked like they'd have crushed some buildings, possibly by accident. The Sentinel Tower looked like it was calming down, with only a few demons flocking about. We saw an innkeep beating a tree with his axe. Tough innkeeper. The main part of the battle was moving towards the castle. There were lots of bodies on the center square, though most of them seemed to be demons. Some of them were also Master's Merry Men. Longfoot stopped for a moment to do some looting, while the rest of us kept marching on. After a while, we saw two battles - the lieutenant fighting demons, and a woman doing the same. We went to their aid, and managed to beat the demons they were fighting. The lieutenant died, but the woman - who we recognized as Tonica - survived, albeit badly wounded. A couple of moments, a few battle mages showed up and took her. They told us that all the defense had been concentrated to the castle. We ran around the city, and found a group of battle mages preparing to cast a mass spell. We went between them and the enemy. We saw that each time the mages managed to complete their spell, some of the demons fell down. The trolls seemed to be fighting each other, and were in retreat. None of them were fighting near the castle anymore. Quaylan's mansion was on fire. A troll was resting on the fire, preventing it from spreading. We saw the Master and some of his Merry Men. The MMM had huge amounts of arrows, and were shooting at the demons. The Master seemed to be casting some spells. By the time we got there, the battle began to be over. The demon armies were in a retreat. We overheard the Master telling one of his men to check out the tower. "And don't fly," he added, as the MMM was leaving. The Master also told them to find all of their fallen. We went to talk with the Master. He was a little annoyed over the fact that Lord Wiltshire had been resurrected. He told us to go to the Sentinel Tower and find out what had happened. A MMM tried to heal the demon, but failed. He went to report about it to the Master, and the Master said it might be for the best for us to go hide. We went to Master's Rock, finishing off dead demons on the way. We were taken to the Master's room, and told that we could camp in one of the corners. We were brought food, so we ate. About five hours later, the Master returned. He seemed pretty exhausted. He told us that the demons had recovered their amulet and had escaped with it. The second-in-command of the demons had been captured and taken to the prison fortress for interrogation. There were going to be at least two god artifacts in the tower when it was repaired, and he'd given the Scythe back to the Sentinels, since it was irrelevant whether or not the godly artifact was alone or with a friend there. The Master said he knew a bit about our fishing in other camps, but since we decided to help him in the end, he was ready to look the other way and start from a fresh table. We could now ask for a reward. He told us that by the time Dorgan appeared, the Master had plenty of men by his side, who began shooting at Dorgan. But Dorgan had the Leaf of Tamaol with him, which he used to create a wooden barrier around him. But then! Fire magic was used against Dorgan, and Dorgan did not survive being turned into a flaming wreck. The Master was able to recover a map from it, which he had turned over to Daylo, so D could make a better version out of it. Should Buran want it, the Master could make it his reward. I was given The Mage Axe, a weapon for a mage that worked the better the better mage the user was. The Master mentioned we'd been asked to visit the mage school, but it might be better if we went there tomorrow. The Master thought this region had calmed down for a bit, and there wouldn't be any more artifacts to be found here. According to Daylo, the Book of Necreegh had gone to the north and the demons had the Amulet of Azatoth. The Master wanted to send us on a long journey, but thought we were a bit ill-equipped to survive it. He thought it might be a good idea to put us into the mage school or give us some combat training. We went to take the swords we'd found and return them to the royal palace. The undead and the demon were left behind, in a violation of the No Monster Left Behind Act. There were lots of people at work, removing trees from buildings and carrying troll corpses away. We also saw mages practicing Movement magic with the trolls. We went to the sword elf barracks and returned the swords. We were told that it had been very honorable to return the valuable things, and our names would be forwarded to the The Courte Royale (TM). On the way back, we saw demon and undead corpses. All of the undead seemed to have Wiltshire's symbol on their clothes. A few elves were dragging them away, and being most confused about the condition of Wiltshire's men. They looked like they'd been lying on the ground for a few weeks. The roads were in a bad shape. Bad road builders, bad! There was a huge amount of villagers gathered by the chapel. There was a soldier holding a speech, trying to convince the villagers that the bodies inside were mangled too much to be recognized. Then the soldiers began to carry the barrels outside. Smelling the contents, the villagers gave up and left. We reached the Mapmaker's Keep. Daylo had just woken up, thanks to our ringing of the bell. Daylo's apprentice had disappeared. Daylo gave us the map of Rakash Draak with Names. After getting it, we talked a bit and then returned to Dorandor. In Dorandor, there was a list of missing and dead. Among the dead we found Rondo and the lieutenant. Among the missing, we found Arias and the leader of the circus (Who? Did I miss something? Apparently he's somebody Longfoot had some sort of a grudge with.). Daylo's apprentice was also missing. There were also going to be trials against the Queen's orcish bodyguard, several demons, orcs, and even some villagers from Cenoby. We went to eat. We saw many strage faces, but met our Knights of the Dawn instructor. His superiors had talked with Quaylan, and it had seemed like Quaylan's and his superiors' views about KoD's future were a little conflicting. We returned to the Master. He said that the Amulet of Azmodan, quickly heading towards Tundan and the Great Burning Hollow, was missing from him. There was no sign of Lorenan, the light goddess. Kalarean, the Ice God, was also missing, and Anxar and Necreegh were somewhere. Add to that the godly artifacts in the Sentinel Tower. Then there were also three forgotten gods, but those were not our problem. Anyway, things were going better than he'd expected. TM had found that the Book of Necreegh had first gone to Fortress Belvedere, after which it had been taken to Myrnur and Aleandor. Our next mission would be to go there, and he'd be sending his own men there as well. He would also go there. In the Great Burning Hollow there was a great volcano, which could burn even godly artifacts and reduce them to ashes. The Master asked the rest of us if they'd want to join him as well, and he'd place an Orb of Magic into them, which'd keep them alive. When people refused, the Master commented that we had already earned our freedom, and should we not wish to continue working for him, we were by all means free to leave.
